CANISTOTA/FREEMAN FOOTBALL ON AS PLANNED
Canistota Superintendent Larry Nebelsick confirmed Monday morning, Oct. 19, that there are several cases of COVID-19 in the junior high, but the Canistota/Freeman football team is not impacted. One Canistota volleyball player will miss tonight’s home match against Irene-Wakonda, but there is no reason for alarm, he said.
“The boys and girls have done a great job of avoiding each other all year,” Nebelsick told the Courier.
As the Pride, they will host Chester Area in Freeman in the first round of the 9A playoffs Thursday night, Oct. 22. A win moves them into the second round the following week, when they would host a quarterfinal game in Canistota.
Freeman Public Athletic Director Kristina Sage told the Courier the district has been in touch with its football players encouraging them to avoid close contact situations, and that the players have responded to that well.
