Bob Juhnke: 1935-2020
Robert Leal Juhnke (Bob) of Cape Coral, Fla., passed away peacefully at his home Sept. 11, 2020 at the age of 84 years and 9 months, with his wife and children at his bedside after a long bout with cancer.
He was born on a farm near Milltown to Arnold and Freda (Huber) Juhnke. He was baptized on December 29, 1935 and confirmed at St Peter’s Lutheran Church in Clayton, S.D.
He grew up on a farm near Milltown and was the second child of six. He had three brothers and two sisters. He has many happy memories of growing up on the farm and going to Tucson, Ariz., with his family for the winter.
He attended Highland 78, Freeman, Tucson, Parkston High School and Nettleton College. He married June Wallman on Jan. 11, 1957. They enjoyed almost 64 wonderful years. He served in the Army National Guard and was active in 1957 and 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He loved farming, he owned a Conoco gas station and worked in the conical office.
He enjoyed traveling in the motorhome and hit almost all of the states in the U.S. He also enjoyed camping, boating, cruises and spending time with his family. He enjoyed going and spending time with his family, children, grandchildren and friends. He and his wife read and studied the Bible almost every day. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, S.D. His family and friends will remember his loving nature and smile.
A celebration of life will be planned later in the spring of next year.
He is survived by his wife, June; daughter, Kimberly (Tony) Holes; and son, Russ Juhnke.
Also, his sisters: Irene (Don) Reeb, Colorado and Gloria (Gene) Van Ackeren, Nebraska; his brother, Arnie (Linda) Juhnke, Springfield; sisters-in-law, Darlene Juhnke, Milltown and Jane (Roger) Kugler, Vermilion, S.D.; brother-in-laws: Ruben Wallman, Sioux Falls and Reno Huber, Freeman; and five grandchildren: Nikkol, Tyler, Tori, Gage and Skylar.
Preceded him in death are his parents, Arnold and Freda Juhnke; his brothers, Bill Juhnke and Bruce (Nancy) Juhnke; sister-in-law, Jeanine Juhnke; and brother-in-law, Art Dittman.
