Doug Uecker, Lonnie Tjaden and Blaine Saarie are sworn in during the Freeman City Council’s reorganization Wednesday evening, May 6. All three turned in petitions for a new term earlier this year and were unchallenged in their bid for reelection. Terry Jacobsen, who chose not to seek reelection for a two-year term, agreed to remain on the council for one additional year and was appointed to that term on a 5-0 vote of the council.
Wednesday’s meeting also included committee appointments, bank and newspaper designations and a discussion about security at the July 31 South Dakota Chislic Festival; councilors agreed to allow festival organizers and Freeman Police Chief Scott Brewer to come to terms with how to handle law enforcement at the all-day event rather than adhering to security terms outlined in the city ordinance.
Watch for more on the May 6 meeting next week.
