Casey’s along Highway 81 is pictured in the foreground as fireworks light up the night sky Sunday, June 27 — a grand finale to Freeman’s Independence Day celebration. The fireworks show was once again sponsored by CorTrust Bank and followed the traditional Blacksox game against Tabor in which the local amateur team lost 11-9 in a hard-fought contest. Sunday’s celebration also featured youth baseball and softball games, a Freeman Sticks Teeners 4-1 win over Scotland and a popular chislic stand once again sponsored by Merchants State Bank.
