PHOTO OF THE DAY: LOOKING BACK ALMOST 70 YEARS
This photo shows what the Freeman Junior College/Freeman Academy campus looked like in 1953 not long after Pioneer Hall (upper right) was built. The often-used building will be in play once again today as the South Dakota Mennonite Central Committee Relief Sale will take place in its auditorium after organizers decided late Friday night to relocate the fundraiser from the Prairie Arboretum because of rain. This will be the first relief sale for MCC in South Dakota since 2019 and the 32nd since it began in 1987.
Of note: The only other building pictured here is the white wooden structure (lower right) that opened as South Dakota Mennonite College in 1903. It has seen come to be known as Music Hall and today also houses the lower grade-school levels.
