CHARGES PENDING IN ACCIDENT AT MERIDIAN CORNER
Charges are pending against Menno residents Christine Jackvony, 56, and William Jackvony, 65, in an accident involving two vehicles near Meridian Corner eight miles south of Freeman Thursday afternoon, July 16.
According to preliminary information provided by the Department of Public Safety Friday afternoon, Christine Jackvony was the driver and William Jackvony was the passenger of a 2014 Chevy Traverse that was eastbound on Highway 18. After stopping at the stop sign, the vehicle proceeded into the intersection and was struck by a 2022 Cascadia Freightliner pulling a tractor trailer of fiberglass enclosures that was northbound on Highway 81. The name of the 43-year-old driver of the Freightliner was not released. He was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured, according to the report.
Neither occupant in the Traverse was wearing a seatbelt and both were transported via ambulance to Freeman Medical Center with serious non-life-threatening injuries; William Jackvony was later airlifted to Sioux Falls.
Freeman fire and ambulance responded to the call, as did the South Dakota Highway Patrol, which is continuing its investigation.
