NEW: BIDS BEING SOUGHT FOR MAIN STREET PROJECT
JEREMY WALTNER – PUBLISHER
The city of Freeman is advertising for bids for its long-awaited Main Street project.
The advertisement is printed on page 6B of this week’s Courier and will run again on March 3 and March 10. The bid opening is scheduled for Wednesday, March 16 at 2:15 p.m. in City Hall — a public meeting in which the bids are read aloud. The project that would see Main Street rebuilt from Fifth to the North County Road, Railway one block to the southwest and several other side streets adjacent to the downtown roadway, is estimated to cost $3.9 million.
Another local project being considered, this one a multi-use/wrestling facility by the Freeman School District, is also out on bids, the specifics of which can be found in the legal notice on page 5B. This is the second time the district has solicited bids for the project, which originally came in considerably higher than what was estimated.
The bids for construction of the multi-purpose facility, which would be built east of the elementary school gym, will be opened at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8.
