Walter H. Huber: 1933-2022

Dr. Walter H. Huber, 88, of Lake Sarah, Minn., passed away peacefully and with grace on March 13, 2022 with family at his side.

Walter was born on the farm near Freeman, S.D., on May 23, 1933, to Henry and Magdelene (Hodde) Huber. After Walt graduated from Freeman High School in 1951, he attended South Dakota State University and then the University of Minnesota where he earned his doctorate degree in veterinary medicine.

Dr. Huber had a 31-year career with the United States Department of Agriculture, managing programs first in South Dakota, and then as an Area Manager based in Colorado. His professional accomplishments were many and his commitment to public service admirable.

Following his retirement in 1988, Walt and his wife and love of his life, Brigitte, built their retirement home on the east side of Lake Sarah where they celebrated their 63rd year of marriage last October. Walt loved his wife and family completely and their lake continues to be home to all. Walt and Brigitte have two children, Brett and Brenda, five grandchildren, and numerous great-grands.

Walt was preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings and one grandson (Brett Jr.) He is survived by his wife Brigitte, sister Marilyn, and his two children, Brett and Brenda (Marke); and grandkids Sarah, Benjamin, Greyson and Morgen. The immediate family is observing his passing with a private service at the family home. Both Walter and Brigitte are proud, patriotic Americans and ask that In lieu of flowers or gifts, you direct any contributions you may wish to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation serving our wounded veterans at t2t.org.
