PHOTO OF THE DAY: MEANWHILE ON HIGHWAY 18 …
This barracade blocking off westward traffic at Highway 18 and 81 have been in place since the Department of Transportation’s major road construction project began April 1, meaning travelers going in and out of Menno have had to find alternative routes. Rob Knight, who is with Foothills Contracting, Inc. of Webster, the project’s general contractor, said the eight-mile stretch of highway is scheduled to be closed entirely for 40 working days, which means into June. After that, he said, traffic will be permitted with a pilot car. Workers will then turn their attention to Highway 18 west of Menno to Olivet, which will be a 20-working-day phase. The stretch of Highway 18 that runs through Menno city limits will not be regraded, Knight said. The entire project is scheduled for completion mid-November.
