UECKER RESIGNS FROM CITY COUNCIL AGAIN
JEREMY WALTNER – PUBLISHER
Freeman Mayor Michael Walter is expected to recommend an appointment for a vacant Ward 3 seat after Doug Uecker resigned from his position at the table when the Freeman City Council met in regular session last week Tuesday, June 21.
Uecker stepped down because he has moved out of Ward 3.
Walter did not identify his recommendation by name but told The Courier early this week he has spoken with a person who is interested in filling out the remainder of the first year of Uecker’s two-year term.
That nomination is pending council approval.
An election would then be held for the final year in 2023.
Uecker was originally appointed to the Ward 3 spot by Walter in June of 2020 after the mayor took the oath of office for his first two-year term. Uecker then served as a councilor until July of 2021 when he resigned to take over as the city’s finance officer — a position he held for seven months.
After stepping down from that position, Uecker was unopposed in his bid to return to the city council as a Ward 3 representative and began that term in May — less than two months before his most recent resignation.
