PHOTO OF THE DAY: VOICES TOGETHER

Joshua Hofer sings Scene 2 of “Messiah” — “The Coming Judgement” — during Friday’s performance of the classic Handel oratorio by the Swiss Choral Society. The 60-minute concert was presented by the 51-voice choir and accompanying musicians at the Salem-Zion Mennonite Church, where nearly all pews were filled. The performance included a chamber orchestra from the South Dakota Symphony (Sonja Eiesland, Magdalena Modzelewska, Iona Galu and Andrew Travers), brass provided by the first- and second-chair trumpets of the South Dakota High School All-State Orchestra (Damien Magnusen and Nate Collette) and keyboard (Brett Eisenbeis). In addition to Hofer (bass), soloists were Whitney Werner (soprano) and Greg Billion (tenor).
