Andersen is one of a number of local students performing at the two-day event; Menno’s Lexie Hogeland earned a superior in Storytelling on Friday and four others will perform Saturday afternoon: Freeman Academy’s Jessica Paschal, Freeman Public’s Thor Aanenson and Menno’s Kaelie Derby and Maggie Miller. The state festival — the 113th — is an event organized by the South Dakota High School Activities Association in partnership with South Dakota Public Broadcasting and is being held at the Mitchell Career & Technical Education Academy that is part of the Mitchell School District.
