PHOTO OF THE DAY: ACTING OUT HISTORY
This was the scene early Wednesday evening as the reenactment of the First National Bank of Freeman robbery of 1935 played out before a crowd of several hundred. The production was directed by Jeremy Waltner and staged by actors portraying the four robbers (Kerry Hofer, Cullen Mack, Collin Waltner and Evan Waltner); the banker taken hostage (Dennis Lehmann); Emma Fensel (Becky Waltner), who encounters the robbers after making a deposit; two bystanders inside (voiced by Brett Pidde) and a narrator (Seth Loofbourrow). It was part of a larger evening of activities in Freeman that also included the Freeman Farmer’s Market at the Swimming Pool Park, money sand pit for kids and a vendor and car show downtown, and Heritage Hall Museum & Archives offered rides in the getaway car used in the bank robbery reenactment — a 1931 Model A.
