STICKS BOUNCE CORSICA-STICKNEY IN OPENING ROUND OF STATE
The Sticks had no trouble in the opening round of the South Dakota VFW Class B 14U State Tournament in Corsica on Friday, soundly defeating host team Corsica-Stickney 10-0 in a game that ended early because of the mercy rule. The Freeman/Marion teener club will face Mt. Vernon/Plankinton in the semifinals on Saturday at 4 p.m. for a spot in Sunday’s championship game. The losers will play in the third-place game Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Sticks, who improved to 15-2 on the season, saw three hits and a pair of RBI from Riley Gall; Tannen Auch and Logun Pankratz both knocked in a pair of runs; and Luke Peters had an RBI double in the winning effort.
Tayden Kerrigan, who earned the win, partnered up with Rylan Tommeraus to pitch the two-hit shutout.
On the other side of the winner’s bracket, Parkston will face Platte-Geddes Saturday at 6 p.m.
In the loser’s bracket, Corsica-Stickney will face Baltic and Selby will play Clark Area in elimination games.
