FA SOCCER TEAM PLAYS DAKOTA VALLEY TO 1-1 DRAW

Senior Liam Ortman scored a match-tying goal in the second half and goalkeeper Blake Rumelhart made a game-saving stop on a penalty kick with 3 minutes to play as Freeman Academy played Dakota Valley to a 1-1 tie at Dakota Valley (N. Sioux City) on Saturday.

Head coach Scott Dent said Rumelhart’s save was followed by a second save by Caleb Downs when a Dakota Valley striker rebounded the ricochet from the PK and fired toward the corner of the net.

The tie moves the Bobcats to 1-0-1 on the season while the Panthers improved to 0-1-1.

Dent also noted that Freeman Academy could have won; the coach said several questionable calls went against his team and his team missed a shot at a wide open net that would have made the difference.

Next up for the Bobcats is a match against West Central on Aug. 31 that was originally scheduled for Aug. 22 — and then moved to Aug. 24 — but postponed because of excessive heat.
