PHOTO OF THE DAY: OLD MAIN
This great shot is posted on Heritage Hall Museum and Archives’ Facebook page as part of its weekly look back, along with the accompanying information:
In addition to the remarkable Christmas decorations spanning Freeman’s Main Street looking north from Fifth Street, this classic photo from the mid to late 60s is full of interesting tidbits. The Fred Haar John Deere implement is on the far right. Continuing to the north are the two-story City Hall and the Freeman Implement IH dealership. In the next blocks you’ll find the Merchants State Bankclock and Schamber Building down the street.
The east side of far end of Main Street includes a railroad car, the Mobil gas station and two cafes – the Town House and City Café. Continuing to the south, there’s the familiar First National Bank sign, Huber’s/Standard gas station, King Koin Laundromat, Pollman Hardware, Jo’s Café and the Freeman Coop.
The photo is one of thousands in our archives that offer a place in time in our community’s rich history.
