PHOTO OF THE DAY: BLAST FROM THE PAST

This photo from 1962 was reprinted in the Freeman Courier 50 years ago this week and shows the Freeman Flyers boys basketball team after winning seventh place at the State B Tournament. Picture are, from left: Coach Don Diede, Jim Smidt, Dennis Wollman, Jim Gullickson, Ray Schultz, Bob Schamber, Gary Pfeiffer, Reno Huber and coach Darryl Weiland. The Flyers ended the regular season undefeated and finished the 1961-62 campaign with a 26-2. The caption underneath the picture reprinted in 1972 reads: “It’s interesting to note the fact that many of these fellows are now active members of the Freeman community 12 years later.”
