LOCAL RACES, MARION BOND ELECTION TOMORROW
Local, regional and state voters will weigh in on a number of races in the 2024 Primary Election set for Tuesday, June 4, and those living in the Marion School District will decide whether to approve a general obligation bond in the amount of $6 that would help fund an $11 million capital improvement project at the school’s dated campus.
The bond requires a 60% super majority for approval; this is the Marion School Board’s second attempt to pass a bond resolution. A $6.5 million bond received a majority vote in January but failed to reach the 60% requirement.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. across the state.
The polling place for Marion’s school bond election is the American Legion Hall on Main Street.
The polling place in Freeman is the Freeman Community Center.
The polling place in Menno is Helena Agri Enterprises located along Highway 18 on the edge of town.
For all polling places, go the Secretary of State’s website at sdsos.gov and click on the red “2024 Primary Election Day” button on the right side of the page, then follow the instructions at the “Voter Information Portal.”
There are a number of local races voters will weigh in on.
For Hutchinson County Commission representing District 2 (the city of Freeman and Grand View and Silver Lake townships), two-term incumbent and rural Freeman resident Steve Friesen is being challenged by Freeman resident Charles Gering.
In in a three-way race for District 19’s two House seats, incumbents Jessica Bahmuller (R-Alexandria) and Drew Peterson (R-Salem) are being challenged by Steve Mettler (R-Menno).
Sample ballots, which include a Democratic primary race for U.S. President, are printed on pages 4-5B.
