PHOTO OF THE DAY: ADVENTURES IN GEODES
Katelyn Anderson leans in a for a closer look as Terry Waterman reveals the inside of a geode — a rock featuring a cavity lined with crystals made up of other mineral matter. It was part of an excursion to Heritage Hall Museum & Archives taken on by elementary-aged students involved in the Freeman Public Library’s 2024 Summer Reading Program Thursday afternoon, June 27. The adventure-themed curriculum allowed summer reading participants to work with Waterman — a local rock, mineral, fossil and museum enthusiast — in cracking open the geodes to see firsthand what was inside. The youngsters were also invited by the museum to explore and its Natural World Exhibit and find the answers to 12 questions.
The Summer Reading Program includes curriculum for preschool and older youth, as well, and continues Mondays and Thursdays through the middle part of July.
