PHOTO OF THE DAY: ALL LINED UP
The west side of the 300 block of Main Street in Freeman was busy on Tuesday morning, with many visiting the downtown grocery store, Jamboree Foods. It was 30 years ago this week that owner Bob Pidde was making plans to temporarily close his previous store and move into the new location, which had served as the home to a number of other businesses, including The Carriage House, Village Toggery and K&K for many years before that.
Pidde’s grocery store, known as Bob’s Food Market, had been located in a small building across the street and further south in the building that was most recently home to Dollars & Cents that has been vacant for many years. Pidde took over the business from his dad, Ted Pidde Sr., who opened his grocery store under the name Ted’s Market in 1973 after working for Labor Meats and Lockers the 20 years prior.
Today, Bob’s son, Brett, is a third-generation grocer in the family business.
