PHOTO OF THE DAY: RELIEF IS ON THE WAY
This photo from a year ago shows the fellowship that is so prevalent at the South Dakota Mennonite Central Committee Relief Sale, which is making its return to Freeman this Saturday, July 20. The fundraiser for MCC’s mission — worldwide relief — will by marked by a popular and diverse food court and silent and live auction; things will be rolling by 11 a.m. and wound down my the middle part of the afternoon. Here’s more.
On Saturday, July 20, people from communities scattered across southeastern South Dakota — and beyond — will gather for the 35th MCC Relief Sale held in South Dakota to support worldwide relief projects.
The relief sale will be held on the Freeman Academy campus in Freeman; all activities will take place in the dining hall located in the basement of Pioneer Hall. This year’s fundraiser will feature silent and live auction items, bake sale, Kettle Korn and a variety of foods served in the food court — stewed beef, cheese pockets, sauerkraut, taco salad, fruit salad, concessions with sloppy Joes and hot dogs, pie, kuchen and soft ice cream.
All proceeds will go to Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), a global, nonprofit organization that strives to share God’s love and compassion for all through relief, development, and peace projects.
The event formerly known as Minn-Kota Festival took a two-year break to regroup and emerged as S.D. MCC Relief Sale in 2014. The Relief Sales in South Dakota have raised a total of about $2.5 million dollars for MCC’s work around the world.
