Jim Smidt moves a large crate that holds cardboard back into its spot inside the Freeman Recycling Center Friday morning. Smidt was in a separate area of the Cedar Street facility compressing the cardboard into bales. The city’s recycling effort goes back more than 30 years with 24-hour access in place the past 25 years.
