Russ Becker drops a basket of chislic in the oil fryer Saturday morning, July 27 as the sixth annual South Dakota Chislic Festival gets underway just after 10 a.m. Becker was working at the chislic stand operated by festival organizers and several of the 300 volunteers it takes to make the event happen. By noon the grounds of the Freeman Prairie Arboretum were filling with guests and live music – 1950s-era – was giving the festival a fun jibe.
