MENNO BEATS FREEMAN 9-2 TO ADVANCE TO STATE TOURNAMENT
The Menno amateur baseball team has once again advanced to the state tournament at the expense of its biggest rival.
Competing in a District 6B elimination game Thursday night in Lesterville, the Mad Frogs took care of the Freeman Blacksox 9-2 in a game that was nip and tuck until the seventh, when Menno turned a 2-1 deficit into a 6-2 lead. The Frogs added three more in the ninth to make it 9-2 and Freeman had no answer.
Menno will take a 5-11 record into the State Amateur Baseball Tournament, which starts at Mitchell’s Cadwell Park Aug. 7. Freeman ends its season 7-10.
The Mad Frogs also beat the Blacksox in last year’s district tournament and advanced to the state tournament, where they won their opening game against Northville before being eliminated.
Menno and Freeman were both part of the state tournament field in 2022.
