Secretary David Flute of the South Dakota Department of Tribal Relations speaks with Freeman Academy students in grades 1-4 during what was a special morning at the school — an Indigenous Peoples’ Celebration. The conversation that took place between Sec. Flute and the students inside Heritage Hall Museum & Archives followed a much larger event that featured comments by the secretary and a performance by the Dakota Dance Club held in front of more than 700 people — mostly students from the surrounding area — inside Sterling Hall.
