FHS BOYS DROP SECOND-STRAIGHT GAME

One day after suffering their first loss of the season to Howard, the Freeman High School boys dropped their second game of the season, falling the Dell Rapids 63-51 as part of the inaugural Midwest Miracles hosted by Viborg-Hurley as a fundraiser for pediatric cancer care. The Quarriers, which play in Class A, built a double digit lead by halftime but the Flyers rallied to tie the game in the third period, only to come up short in the final quarter.

Freeman is now 3-2. Dell Rapids improved to 3-3.

FRIDAY NIGHT ACTION

In a battle of teams tied for the No. 5 spot in the Class B poll, defending champion Howard handled the Freeman Public boys with relative ease, coming away with a 66-45 win Friday night in Howard.

The loss drops the Flyers to 3-1 while the Tigers improved to 4-2.

The Freeman boys return to the court against Dell Rapids (1-3) Saturday at 11 a.m. at Viborg-Hurley.

In other action Friday night:

  • The Freeman girls defeated Howard 51-31 to improve to 4-1. The Tigers dropped to 1-6;
  • Scotland/Menno dropped a home doubleheader to Ethan. The girls lost 58-22 and fell to 2-3 (Ethan improved to 4-1) while the boys lost 61-45 and dropped to 1-3 (Ethan improved to 3-2);
  • Freeman Academy/Marion lost twice in a home doubleheader against Tripp-Delmont/Armour. The Bearcat girls fell 40-18 and dropped to 2-6 (TDA improved to 3-2) while the boys lost 68-34 to fall to 0-4 (TDA improved to 2-2).

FHS GIRLS BEAT COLMAN-EGAN

The Freeman girls held a double digit lead over a 6-1 Colman-Egan team and survived a fourth quarter rally by the Hawks to hang on for a 52-50 win on the road Thursday night, Jan. 2. The Flyers led 13-8 after one, 27-17 at the break and 43-29 after the third period but Colman-Egan won the fourth period 21-9.

Sophomore Rylee Peters had 25 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the Flyers, who improved to 3-1. Senior Peyton McCune was also in double figures with 14 points.
