PHOTO OF THE DAY: WAY BACK WHEN

This photo shows Stern Oil Company as it was in 1989, when the homegrown business was located downtown Freeman — on the corner of Main and Fourth streets. The building was originally built as the First National Bank of Freeman and was home to a shoe store owned by Dale Goertz before it became Stern Oil. Today, the corner store has been completely restored by Dawn and Darren Walz and is home to the Vault Coffee Shop — a new endeavor by the business owners who originally opened as The Vintage Vault and have been operating as Vintage Vault and Floral.
