Students in Nathan Bates’ German Language class at the University of South Dakota make their way through the buffet at Schmeckfest late Friday afternoon, March 4. The meal experience — and all of Schmeckfest — is the highlight of the year for the students, said Bates, who started bringing his class to the festival in 2018.

Several thousand once again took in Schmeckfest, held for the 64th year Friday and Saturday, with the traditional meal selling out all 1,000 tickets both nights and large crowds mingling elsewhere across campus.
