AVON TOPS FLYERS FOR 3RD AT HANSON TOURNAMENT

Playing for third place at the Hanson Early Bird Invitational Thursday night, Aug. 24, the Freeman High School volleyball team lost to Avon 2 sets to 1, finishing the tournament — and starting the season — 1-2.

Avon beat the Flyers 19-25, 25-15, 25-13.

Ashlin Jacobsen and Ella Waltner each had 6 kills and Cami Fransen tallied 21 set assists, 4 digs and 3 aces to lead Freeman. Zenovia Butler added 5 kills and 12 digs and Emily Mendel had 2 kills, 2 aces and 4 digs.

The Flyers host Corsica-Stickney in their home opener Monday night.
